This is a heart warming story about Garth Callaghan’s love for his daughter. Each day Garth, puts a note on a napkin in his daughter’s lunch. He started with simply notes and drawings when Emma began kindergarten. The notes became a daily ritual when Emma was in the 3rd grade, she is now in the 8th grade. That’s a lot of notes.
Garth Callaghan, has received four cancer diagnoses. During his time left he has decided to make sure that his daughter will find a message in her lunchbox every day until she graduates from high school.
Callaghan is now in the process of writing 826 napkin notes for Emma. Although he only has about 40 notes to reach his goal, he continues to write new ones. The 826 notes are his “just in case” pile.
To assure he never write her the same note twice, he keeps all of notes on a spreadsheet. In addition to his own personal notes he also includes famous quotes. His favorite quotes are from Dr. Seuss and Fred Rogers.
This isn’t a story about cancer, because any parent at any time could be hit by a car or have a heart attack,” Garth said in an interview with TODAY.com. “This is really about leaving a legacy so that she can understand some of my life philosophies and how much I love her.”
Callaghan’s has an inspiring blog www.napkinnotesdad.com and a kindle edition booklet Napkin-Notes-Make Lunch Meaningful, Life will Follow available on Amazon. He also plans on releasing a 2nd edition e-book with the 826 quotes. You can follow him on his Facebook page, Twitter and Pinterest.
